Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation grants $100,000 in scholarships to future healthcare professionals.

(LEE’S SUMMIT, MO) — The Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation (GLSHF), which works to strengthen the health and well-being of our community, is excited to share that it’s awarding $100,000 in scholarships to local students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The community is invited to celebrate these outstanding students at an award ceremony on Tuesday, July 8 at 4 p.m. at the Stansberry Leadership Center, 301 Tudor Rd. in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Why it matters: By supporting local students, the Foundation is investing in a more healthy Lee’s Summit. “When we invest in our local students, we’re not just funding their education — we’re building the future of healthcare in our own community. These scholarships help ensure we have compassionate, skilled professionals ready to care for us and our neighbors for generations to come.” - Dr. Laurel Hogue, Board Chair, Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation

This year, the Foundation is proud to introduce the very first Don Kahan Commitment to Community Scholarship, which will be presented to Kaci Moritz during the ceremony. This special scholarship honors the legacy of Don Kahan, a beloved Lee’s Summit community member known for his practical solutions, compassion, and commitment to making a real difference. It’s designed to lift up students who share Don’s civic spirit and dedication to serving others through careers in healthcare. Kaci recently completed her studies in Ultrasound Technology at the University of Missouri-Columbia and plans to begin working in the Lee’s Summit, MO community soon.

Who is eligible for future scholarships: Students who live in Lee’s Summit or graduated from a local high school, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and are studying or planning to study healthcare fields like medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, or other allied health professions.

Details of our scholarship awards:

  • Multiple scholarships of up to $8,000 each go directly toward tuition for the upcoming school year.

  • Applications open each year from January 1 through March 1, with recipients announced in April.

  • Since 2003, GLSHF has given more than $2.3 million in grants and scholarships to boost community health.

It’s incredibly heartening to see the Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation investing so significantly in the future of healthcare professionals. Awarding $100,000 in scholarships is a life-changing gesture that not only eases the financial burden for students but also ensures the community will have a dedicated and well-trained workforce for years to come. Navigating the rigors of medical and health sciences education is notoriously difficult, and the academic pressure can be overwhelming. I’ve spoken with several health science students who, while incredibly passionate about patient care, find the heavy data and research components of their degrees to be a major hurdle; many often look for statistics assignment help services just to ensure they can master the analytical side of their coursework…

This is such an inspiring initiative, and it’s great to see local foundations actively investing in the future of healthcare through scholarships. Supporting students not only eases financial pressure but also encourages more people to pursue meaningful careers in health services, which ultimately benefits the entire community. It’s especially important at a time when access to quality education and healthcare professionals is more critical than ever. Efforts like this also highlight how funding decisions and resource allocation play a key role in shaping public welfare, something often discussed in Public Economics Assignment Help UK resources. Overall, this kind of contribution sets a powerful example of how communities can come together to create lasting, positive change. Hopefully, more organizations will follow…

This was such an encouraging read I really like how the post focuses not just on the scholarship amount but also on the stories behind the recipients and what this support means for their future in healthcare. It’s awesome to see organisations investing in students who are committed to making a difference, especially in fields that matter so much to community wellbeing. Sometimes it’s easy to think scholarships are just about money, but hearing about the real impact like enabling someone to continue their studies or reduce financial stress makes it feel much more personal and inspiring rather than just another announcement. I also appreciated that the post highlighted a range of applicants and backgrounds, which makes the whole initiat…
