Developing Potential Inc. Celebrates 25 Years

Special feature from LS Tribune:

Celebrating 25 years, Developing Potential Inc., is a nationally accredited non-profit organization. They are in the process of expanding their services to be able to provide quality services to adults with developmental disabilities.

With the help of Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare, they are striving to meet their goal of supporting these individuals so they might lead the most self-directed and fulfilling life possible.

A 2018 $5,000 grant from Greater Lee”s Summit Healthcare Foundation has helped to provide funds for their health and wellness initiative, as well as purchasing a bubble wall for their sensory room. Lighting up in a variety of colors while sending bubbles up the wall, this new feature will help create a relaxing environment for individuals that have autism, Down’s syndrome, and other diagnosis.

This sensory room is providing these individuals with a place they can come to during the day in order to access sensory equipment and take part in fundamental activities.

The grant from the Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation has helped start the expansion process that will help Developing Potential Inc. to serve as many individuals as possible. Currently Developing Potential serves 23 individuals in Lee’s Summit and over 150 across the KC area, however they still have approximately 70 individuals on the waiting list. They are currently campaigning to expand their services so they may provide care to each individual on their list and more.

Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation provides health-focused grants to nonprofits in the Lee’s Summit community. Grant applications are due by October 31st each year. For more info and access to the application, visit www.HealthyLeesSummit.org.
